About Position Papers
An essential part of representing a state in an international body is the ability to articulate that state's views in writing. Accordingly, it is the policy of MiniMUN to require each delegate to write a position paper. The staff understands that the position paper writing process may be daunting; however, it can also be fun and rewarding for delegates. Each delegate has access to their committee's Background Guide, which provides valuable information about committee topics and also participating in committee itself.

Writing Position Papers
The requirements for MiniMUN position papers are as follows:
You may view an example position paper, showing the flow and outline of a well-written paper, here. Please note that the in-text citations are not written in MLA format although yours should be.
- Before it is entered into the submission form below, each position paper should fill one full page of Times New Roman single-spaced font. The text should be no larger than 12 point and no smaller than 10 point.
- Each paper should include a heading with the committee's name, the name of the delegate's country, and the name of the topic.
- A works cited should be included in MLA format. Please remember to have parenthetical citations in your position paper for any statistic, quotation, etc. that is taken from any of your sources.
- The paper should clearly outline your country's policy on the area to be discussed and also address what factors contribute to these policies.
- Each paper should address the Questions to Consider section on the committee Background Guide.
- Most importantly, the paper must be written from the point of view of the country you are representing at Mini-MUN, and it should clearly articulate the policies you will espouse at the conference.
- A successful position paper includes an introduction to the topic, including a discussion of the importance of the topic and the problems that will be encountered in finding a solution. The paper should then segue into a general, relevant history of the country and its relationship with the topic at hand, and then the nation's general position on the topic. The delegate should then propose actions for the committee to take on the issue at hand and suggest solutions for compromise; this section is many times considered the most important in a position paper.
